Recycling Changes in Sturgeon Bay

When the City of Sturgeon Bay switches its refuse & recycling program to a system using automated garbage trucks, it will also change the way recycling is picked up. Residents will be able to combine paper & cardboard with plastic, glass & metal in what is called “single stream recycling.” Under the current practice, residents are asked to put out paper products one week & metal, plastic & glass the next. When the changeover is made, the co-mingled material will be taken to a facility that will sort & process it. And, under the new system, some residents may opt to recycle every other week. Supporters of the change in the way garbage & recycling is collected in Sturgeon Bay believe the new system will save money in the long run.
