Some excited birdwatchers from all over the state have been traveling to Sturgeon Bay over the past week with the hope of catching a glimpse of a bird very rare to this area, the “Sage Thrasher.” On Saturday, November 23rd, Adam Sinkula, of Green Bay’s Bay Area Bird Club first spotted the bird in a yard near the intersection of Alabama Street and North 4th Avenue. Local birdwatching enthusiast Erik Ost shared with us how exciting this is for area birdwatchers…
This bird’s normal range is Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, and other states further west. The “Sage Thrasher” has been spotted in Sturgeon Bay for the last 11 days, and Ost predicts it might stay longer. It’s last officially reported sighting was near Sunset Park on Sunday.
