Powell Resigns as DC YMCA CEO

The Door County YMCA has announced that Chief Executive Officer Dan Powell has tendered his resignation & will begin his new duties as CEO at the Whatcom Family YMCA in Bellingham, Washington in mid-September. Powell has held the Y’s top spot in Sturgeon Bay since July of 2006. He said he had mixed emotions about his decision to move on, saying it had been the highest honor of his professional career to have served locally.

Brian Stephans, Chairman of the Door County YMCA Board of Directors, said Powell’s leadership paved the way for the organization to provide programs to serve critical populations in the community. He noted that the Y now has a full-time daycare program, a summer meals program, & wellness programming offsite at schools, businesses & parks throughout the county. Stephans will work with the resource director from the YMCA of the USA to fill the chief executive position during the coming months. A search committee of volunteer leaders from the board of directors will be assembled to begin a nationwide search for candidates for the job. In the meantime, the management team will be responsible for the day-to-day activities & operations of the Door County YMCA program centers.
