Pinney Park To Be Dedicated July 28th

The formal dedication for George K. Pinney County Park is set for Sunday, July 28th at 1PM. The 15 acre parcel in the Town of Sevastopol, formerly known as Olde Stone Quarry Park, was renamed in honor of Pinney who was Door County Parks Director for 18 years until his death at the age of 66 in September of last year. Pinney was the driving force behind the development of the parcel as a prime boat launching facility for fishermen & water enthusiasts.

Owned by the Department of Natural Resources & managed by the Door County Parks Department since 1994, the park’s development began in 1995. It was dedicated as Olde Stone Quarry County Park in 1996. Ten years later, a $4.1 million reconstruction project transformed the property into a harbor of refuge on the waters of Green Bay. A large six lane boat launch with ample parking was developed. The park also provides pier fishing, a pavilion, picnic area, & rest room facilities. Pinney Park is located four miles north of Sturgeon Bay on Bayshore Drive.
