WDOR News learned Tuesday that George Pinney, Door County Parks Director, is receiving chemotherapy treatments for bone marrow cancer. Supervisor Leroy Liebe read from an email sent to him by Pinney during the meeting of the Door County board. The correspondence indicated that Pinney learned he had cancer after spending ten days at the UW hospital in Madison. For the past two months, he has been in & out of work while he attempted to pin down the reason for recent health issues. In his statement, Pinney indicated that the parks department was currently in the capable hands of airport manager Keith Kasbohm &, with the help of staff, things are moving forward. A county employee for a little more than seventeen years, Pinney has been the driving force behind many of the improvements completed at county parks in recent years. His email closed with a statement of appreciation for all of the comments & support received over the years.
