The Sturgeon Bay City Council Tuesday inserted plans put together by the Door County YMCA to develop 10 acres of land recently purchased into the city’s five year outdoor recreational plan. The action will help the “Y” obtain grant funding to develop the property adjacent to its Sturgeon Bay Program Center. The parcel, once part of a projected neighborhood housing development, is expected to be transformed into a park facility including a small amphitheater for children’s plays, sports court areas, expanded playground space, a splash park, walking trails, sports fields, and restroom facilities. The YMCA is working with Baudhuin Incorporated to design the plan. The total cost of the project is estimated at $1,100,000. While the organization doesn’t have all of the funding it needs to complete the project, it has enough to get things started. Amenities such as the restrooms and splash park would be developed as more funds are raised.
