In-Custody Death at Door County Jail

There was a death reported at the Door County Jail late Thursday night. Just before 11:15 pm, a 54 year-old Sturgeon Bay man who was in jail on a probation hold was found to be unresponsive by jail deputies. It was discovered he was not breathing and had no pulse. The deputies began life-saveing measures as they soon received assistance from Door County EMS, first responders from the Sturgeon Bay Fire Department, officers from the Sturgeon Bay Police Department, and the Door County Sheriff’s Patrol Dvision. Continued life-saving measures were unseccessful and the inmate was pronounced deceased. The Door County Sheriff’s Office has requested the death be investigated by the sheriff’s office of Brown County, and an autopsy is now scheduled for Monday with the Brown County Medical Examiner. The name of the deceased is being witheld until his next-of-kin has been notified. No further information is currently available as the incident remains under investigation.
