The Door County Land Trust just announced they have been gifted 2 separate properties on Washington Island which will now be permanently protected. The larger of the 2, a 62-acre property on the island’s northeast quadrant, is near the Indian Point Natural Area, about a half mile from the shoreline. With it’s proximity to other nearby protected land, this donation helps create a wildlife corridor. The 2nd property is near the Little Lake Nature Preserve on the island’s northwest quadrant, and it offers ideal habitat for spring ephemeral flowers, migratory and nesting birds, birds of prey, and other wildlife. With these 2 new property acquisitions, the Door County Land Trust now protects just over 8,800 acres, which is equivalent to the combined acreage of Door County’s 5 state parks.
