Moped Fatality in Liberty Grove, Tuesday

There was a crash fatality in the Town of Liberty Grove Tuesday night. At about 7:20 pm, a 54 year-old Franklin man was heading southbound on Highway 42 alone on his moped when he lost control and entered the west ditch near the intersection with Seaquist Road, south of Ellison Bay. At that time he was ejected from the moped, thrown, and he struck a culvert pipe. Responding to the scene were personnel from the Sister Bay Liberty Grove Fire Department and first responders, Door County EMS, And the Door County Sheriff’s Office. The Franklin man was transported to the Ephraim-Gibraltar airport where he was then flown by “Eagle-3” helicopter to the Door County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. He was soon airlifted again, this time to a Green Bay hospital where he soon passed away due to his injuries. The name of the man is not being released pending notification of next-of-kin, and this incident remains under investigation with no other information available at this time. The Door County Sheriff’s Office reports this is the 3rd crash fatality in Door County this year.
