Michigan Street Bridge to Close for Repairs Monday & Wednesday

The Department of Transportation has announced that the Michigan Street bridge in Sturgeon Bay will be closed on Monday, February 17th, from 8AM to noon & again on Wednesday, February 19th, from 11AM to 3PM. Motorists will need to find alternate routes during the closures. Marine traffic will not be affected. Repair crews will use the first closure to stage their equipment for the repair of the southwest dolphin, one of the cylindrical structures located on either side of the bridge to protect it. The dolphin was struck by a freighter on Saturday, January 11th just after noon as the ship was passing under the bridge. The bridge itself was not damaged & is safe to use. The second closure of the Michigan Street bridge will allow crews to remove equipment following the completion of repairs. Estimated cost of the project is $30,000.
