The Michigan street bridge in downtown Sturgeon Bay opened to traffic Thursday, a day earlier than had been anticipated. The more than eighty year old bridge has been given a new lease on life after the completion of a nearly twenty one million dollar renovation project that began in 2009. The bridge had been closed all spring for the contractor to finish the final phase of the project, which was primarily paint work, after being open temporarily this winter. Wet weather this spring pushed the completion date beyond the planned Memorial Day opening.
