You’ll have at least one more day to use the Michigan Street bridge in Sturgeon Bay next week before the nearly 80 year old span is shut down for a month. The Department of Transportation, which initially indicated that the structure would be closed to vehicular & pedestrian traffic on Monday, now says the span won’t close until Tuesday. The bridge will remain closed until Friday, October 14th. The project is needed to complete painting & inspections of the bridge. The nearly $21 million rehabilitation project on the bridge began in July of 2009 & the DOT opened it up to traffic in July to accommodate the city’s Summer tourism season. During the closure, one span will be left in the open position to provide passage for boat traffic.
