Memorial Day Weekend Ceremonies in DC

We have a reminder here from Door County Veterans Service Officer Beth Wartella about the Memorial Day ceremonies taking place in Door County this weekend. First, on Sunday, the American Legion Post 372 of Forestville will be conducting memorial activities with a firing squad at 23 various cemeteries in the Southern Door area from 7:20 am through 12:15 pm. Those locations and times are listed at the bottom of this article. Then for the Sturgeon Bay area, on Monday brief ceremonies will be conducted at Bayside Cemetery at 9:00 am, at St. Joseph’s Cemetery also at 9:00 am, and the main ceremony will be at 10:00 am at the Sturgeon Bay Fire Department. They ask that you bring a lawn chair for their supply of chairs will be limited. In Northern Door, the American Legion Billy Weiss Post 527 will hold their Monday ceremony in the Skyway Drive-in Theater at 10:30 am. The ceremony will also feature the Gibraltar band, guest speakers, a listing of recently deceased veterans, and the program will be broadcast on the drive-in’s radio channel. Then a 2nd shorter version of this memorial will be held at Hendrickson Park in Sister Bay, next to the Wild Tomato, at 12:30. Then, also Monday, on Washington Island, they will have a graveside only program Monday at 11:00 am followed by a brief ceremony at Schoolhouse Beach for those lost at sea.

The Firing Squad from the George W.
