With the announcement that Sheriff Steve Delarwelle intends to retire at the end of his current term, Chief Deputy Pat McCarty has announced that he will seek the office this fall. Serving as Chief Deputy for the past three years, McCarty has supervised 91 full and part-time employees. Other duties include the creation and management of the department’s budget and the revision of its policy manual. He also acts as the department’s Public Information Officer. A veteran of the US Army and National Guard, McCarty is starting his 25th year in law enforcement. He has worked his way up from Dispatcher, Jail Deputy, Patrol Deputy and SWAT Officer to his current administrative position. McCarty is also well-known for 25 years of youth sports coaching in basketball, baseball, and football.
