Innocent pleas have been entered for a Brussels woman accused of causing the death of her child by leaving her unattended in an overheated SUV for several hours. Thirty three year old Melissa Martinez stood mute during a Door County circuit court appearance Monday while her defense counsel, Green Bay attorney Jefrey Jazgar, entered pleas for her to felony counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle & a charge of child neglect. Judge D. Todd Ehlers set a motions hearing for April 9th. Eight month old Elena Martinez died last October after spending hours in the heated & running vehicle. An autopsy indicated that Elena was a healthy child & died from the effects of environmental hyperthermia. Melissa Martinez is currently living at a halfway house, on $25,000 bail, following inpatient treatment for alcohol abuse
