A faulty mechanism on the Maple to Oregon Street Bridge in Sturgeon Bay is being blamed for shutting down the span to vehicle traffic for much of the day Tuesday. The drive system, which is involved in opening and closing the span failed shortly before 10AM. The bridge has a system of two drives, however when the one failed, somehow the problem was not detected and then could not be corrected by the computer which runs the bridge. The bridge re-opened about 4 o’clock and repairs are expected to be done on Wednesday, but will not affect traffic, either by boat or vehicle.
