Man Struck by Vehicle in Sturgeon Bay High School Parking Lot

A 63-year old Sturgeon Bay man sustained multiple fractures after he was struck by a vehicle in the parking lot at Sturgeon Bay high school Friday morning. Stanley Peterson of 803 East Fathom Place was transported to Ministry Door County Medical Center for injuries to his hand & wrist. Peterson said he was walking to his truck when he was struck by a pickup truck that entered the lot off North 12th Avenue. The driver of the truck, 17 year old William Hendrickson of Sturgeon Bay, said he was traveling at no more than ten miles per hour & never saw Peterson before the accident occurred. Peterson estimated that the speed was much faster. A factor contributing to the accident was the frost that covered nearly all of the windshield on Hendrickson’s vehicle, obscuring his vision except for a small area. The accident report noted that Peterson would require surgery for the wrist injury.
