Man Overcome At Bay Shipbuilding

Sturgeon Bay Firefighters were sent to Bay Shipbuilding Tuesday morning after a contract worker was overcome while working in a confined space on the ship “Kay Barker.” Five units and 17 firefighters were paged out that 8:19am. The 36-year old man had been cleaning a fuel tank when he lost consciousness about 15 feet inside the long a narrow fuel tank.

The department’s Confined Space Rescue Team was able to remove the man from a 16 by 18 inch opening in the tank and was turned over to¬†paramedics for transport to Ministry Door County Medical Center. No word¬†as to the man’s condition or prognosis.

Fire crews were back at the station after 9am.
