The effort to find funding to restore Little Lake at Sunset Park in Sturgeon Bay has been showing positive signs in recent months. Last week, WDOR News reported on grant funding that will be sought by City Municipal Services Superintendent Bob Bordeau, one of several he is working on so that the construction of an engineered wetland can begin this year. The Sturgeon Bay Rotary Club has also been working to secure a grant from the Rotary district. Recently, the Little Lake restoration project was awarded a $5,000 grant from the RBC Blue Water Project. Bret Bicoy & Steve Abrahamson were credited with preparing the grant request that was honored by the Royal Bank of Canada. Another grant may be sought next year from the brokerage firm. Support from Bill Schuster & Greg Coulthurst of the Door County Soil & Water Conservation Department has been invaluable & Doctor John Herlache has offered to chair a fundraising committee. In addition, a Little Lake restoration fund has been set up at the Door County Community Foundation.
