The lights were out in Algoma at mid-day Sunday. A spokesperson for Algoma Utilities told WDOR that lightning hit the incoming line from American Transmission Company & it took out the entire area served by Algoma Utilities. The strike happened a little after 11AM Sunday & the power was restored in about an hour & a half. There are two substations serving Algoma, the north one came up first meaning part of Algoma had lights & then a few minutes later everybody was back on. The storm itself was not major, but sometimes all it takes is a bit of lightning to take the line out of service.
