Laurie Babler Schlaefer has announced she will run for Door County Clerk of Circuit Court in the fall election. Earlier this month, Clerk of Court Nancy Robillard said she would retire at the end of her current term, wrapping up 18 years of service to the county. A life-long resident of Door County, Schlaefer has been a deputy clerk in the Door County office for nearly 16 years. Prior to that, she was on the office staff at Algoma Hardwoods for four years & worked at Peterson Builders, Incorporated for 11 years. Schlaefer, who is 50 years old, is a graduate of Southern Door High School & Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. Much of her free time has been spent in volunteer work, helping the East Maplewood 4-H Club, as a member of the 4-H Adult Leaders board, participating in Relay for Life activities year-round, with the Chop & Shop With a Cop program, & other worthy causes in the area. Schlaefer is a member of Holy Name of Mary Church in Maplewood, the Southern Door Athletic Booster Club, the Maplewood Women’s Community Club, & has hosted two foreign exchange students the past two years. Her interests include reading, walking, sporting events, baking & enjoying time with family & friends. Schlaefer & her husband, Mark, have been married for almost 19 years & have a 16-year old daughter, Sarah. Her goal is to administer a smooth-running court system, implement e-filing & e-payments on wicourts.gov, & improve on a collection program already in place.
