The Washington Island Fire Department is addressing the matter that many of the landline phones on the island are currently not working. Washington Island Fire and Rescue is encouraging everyone to check in often with friends or family on the island that may be dependent on landlines for emergencies. Currently, on the island, dialing 9-1-1 on any land lines, and life alerts hooked to land lines, will not work until the system is repaired. Cell phones continue to work on the island, as before. At this time, Frontier Communications is aware of the problem. It was announced that current estimates for full restoration of land line service would be sometime between November 29th and December 8th. Until then, if you know someone on the island who is dependent on land lines for emergencies, you are encouraged to check in with them periodically.
