Jon Kruse, owner & operator of Door County Marine in Sturgeon Bay, has announced his decision to seek the Republican nomination for assembly in the first district. The seat is currently held by Garey Bies, who announced his retirement last week. After receiving what he called “a tidal wave of support” from friends, family & his community, Kruse said that exploring a run for assembly “felt like the right thing to do.” Kruse, married for 18 years to his wife, Angie, has three children. He grew up in Oshkosh, the son of a veterinarian & a school teacher in an environment that developed his conservative values. After high school, he spent time in France as a foreign exchange student. Kruse attended the University of North Dakota & Saint Cloud State University, studying aviation management & obtaining a pilot’s license. He gained valuable experience in Madison as an aide to State Senator Frank Lasee. Locally, Kruse has served on the board of trustees of Saint John Bosco Catholic School & has been a cub scout leader.
