Jacksonport Polar Bears Ready for Plunge

The 28th annual observance of the polar bear plunge in Jacksonport will be carried out on new years day. The event, which annually attracts 600 to 800 hardy souls willing to brave the frigid waters of Lake Michigan, is held at Lakeside Park, starting precisely at noon. The Jacksonport Polar Bear Club, which started with one swimmer in 1986, also attracts as many as 2000 spectators to the plunge. Music on the beach will again be provided by Dave Gohr of Loud Entertainment DJ Service & “Scoopie,” the mascot for Culvers in Sturgeon Bay, will be on the beach to cheer on swimmers & hand out coupons. Ten percent of new year’s day sales at culvers of sturgeon bay will be donated to the Jacksonport Firefighters Association. Participants & spectators are encouraged to bring a canned food item for the Feed My People food pantry.
