Intoxicated Man Nearly Drives Into Bay

A Door County visitor trying to elude police in Sturgeon Bay early Wednesday morning almost found himself & his vehicle in the water near the Stone Harbor Resort. According to a City police report, the 24 year old resident of Burlington, Wisconsin was seen driving the wrong way down a one way street shortly after 2AM. When officers tried to catch up to the vehicle, they realized that he had turned off his lights. A short time later, they saw the vehicle traveling through the Stone Harbor grounds, heading towards the walkway near the water. Luckily, officers were able to stop him a few feet before the car rolled into the water. The man failed a field sobriety test & was arrested on a second offense of driving while intoxicated, along with several other traffic violations. While no one was injured, the concrete walkway at Stone Harbor was damaged. The Burlington man was taken to the Door County Jail. His next visit to Door County will undoubtedly include a return visit to the Justice Center.
