A southern Door County man was sentenced to 10 years in prison in Brown County Circuit Court Thursday on charges related to the death of a man in a hit-and-run accident in January of last year. Forty year-old Mark Sperber of Forestville will also be under 10 years extended supervision once his prison term is completed.
Twenty-three year-old John Kennedy was in a wheelchair when he was struck in Green Bay by a truck driven by Sperber. Witnesses said Sperber stopped, looked back, then left the scene. Kennedy, who was paralyzed from the waist down, later died.
During the court proceedings, Sperber said the thought he hit a garbage can in the road.
