The Department of Transportation has announced that close to $13 million in grant funding has been approved for eight harbor & maintenance projects in Wisconsin. The lion’s share of that figure, $5,182,933, is earmarked for dredging the federal navigation channel between Northport & Detroit Harbor at Washington Island. The plan calls for removing material from 14 to 17 feet & widening the western edge of the channel by 20 feet to 170 feet total. Other dredging & dock repair projects were approved for Green Bay, Milwaukee, Oconto, Racine County, the Town of Washburn in Bayfield County & two locations in Manitowoc.
