More than twenty downtown businesses in Sturgeon Bay will extend their hours as the United Way of Door County launches 2012 “First Fridays” in the city. The first Friday of each month will offer area residents the opportunity to enjoy downtown Sturgeon Bay with many shops remaining open until 8PM. The one exception is April when “First Friday” will be observed on the second Friday due to Easter. Participating businesses include shops on Jefferson Street, 3rd Avenue & Madison Avenue. The goals of these monthly events are to increase business traffic in downtown Sturgeon Bay & awareness of local non-profit organizations. United Way of Door County will be the featured non-profit for January, followed by the Wellness Center in February. Untitled Rare & Used Books will celebrate its anniversary by initiating first Friday poetry readings. Readings will take place between 5PM & 8PM with coffee & tea available. Residents are invited to read from their own works or those they love during the poetry & spoken word open mic. A salon will follow with wine & cheese.
