Fire Sunday in Ellison Bay

A garage & its contents sustained significant damage in a fire Sunday afternoon in the Ellison Bay area. The Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Fire Department was paged out shortly after 2:55PM to the Mary Mead home at 11996 Mink River Road. The first units on the scene found the structure ablaze, with flames going through the roof. Northern Door mutual aid was called in & seven units & 20 firefighters responded. A combination of water & foam was used to put out the blaze during a firefighting operation that lasted about three hours. Besides the garage, a vehicle, a sailboat & some woodworking tools were lost in the fire which is believed to have been caused by some sort of electrical malfunction. It was noted that fire crews were extremely fortunate that temperatures warmed up during the weekend, rather than having to put out a fire while dealing with sub-zero cold & wind chills.
