Fire Department Rescues Two Ice Fisherman

A crew from the Sturgeon Bay Fire Department was called upon to pluck two fishermen off the ice of the Bay of Green Bay Wednesday afternoon after a large crack opened up. Assistant Fire Chief Tim Dietman said the department’s small inflatable boat was used to pick up the two Illinois men who became stranded around after a 200 to 300 foot gap opened up near off of Sherwood Point, near Oak Road & County M in the Town of Nasewaupee. The fishermen suffered no ill effects from their time on the ice. Dietman said ice conditions are very dangerous at this time & it doesn’t make sense for fishermen to put their lives in danger for a small number of fish.
