Fire at Phill-Mart in Sturgeon Bay Tuesday

A fire call came in early Tuesday morning from the Phill-Mart Mobil station on Sturgeon Bay’s Egg Harbor Road. An adjacent occupant from the same building reported seeing smoke on the security camera and made the call just after 5AM. Sturgeon Bay Assistant Fire Chief Kalin Montevideo says the department arrived within minutes to find heavy smoke within the building. The fire appeared to be contained to the coffee bar area of the convenience store. Actually, the fire burned through a water line which ended up extinguishing the fire before it could spread. The fire’s origin appears to have been the slushee or smoothie machine, but the actual cause has not been determined. The response consisted of 9 firefighters in 4 trucks who were on the scene for just over 1 hour. They secured the area, ventilated the building, and assisted the owner with water removal.
Additionally, the Sturgeon Bay Papa Murphy’s Pizza location within the same building is temporarily closed until further notice.
