The list of individuals interested in the soon to be open principal’s position at Sturgeon Bay’s TJ Walker Middle School is down to two candidates. Randy Watermolen will retire as middle school principal at the end of the current school year after 15 years on the job in Sturgeon Bay and a career in education. Initially, 38 applicants from five states applied for the position. Interviews with five candidates were held April 6th and 7th and involved a student-led tour of the building, a writing task, meeting with administrators, and, interviews with three committees comprised of staff, parents and community members, administrative team and board of education representatives. The two finalists invited to return to Sturgeon Bay on Wednesday(April 13th) are, Dan Arvidson-Hicks and Mark Smullin.
Dan Arvidson-Hicks, is an Assistant Principal at Superior Middle School in Superior, Wisconsin. Hicks has been an instructional coach and teacher at the elementary and secondary levels. He and his family live in Duluth, Minnesota.
Mark Smullin is Principal at Aldrich Intermediate School in Beloit. His previous experience includes time spent as assistant principal, as well as social studies teacher at the secondary level. Smullen and his family live in Beloit.
The two Sturgeon Bay middle school candidates will hold meet and greet sessions Wednesday afternoon.
