Filming for an Upcoming Christmas Movie Wraps in Door County

Over the last month, a film company has been shooting scenes around Door County for a Christmas film to tentatively be titled “A Cherry Pie Christmas.” The last day of filming was along Sturgeon Bay’s 3rd Avenue Friday afternoon, and afterwards writer and director John Stimpson shared with us how the film ended up being filmed in Door County…

Friday afternoon was a very pleasant and warm April day in Sturgeon Bay, so one might think it was difficult to make a Christmas film during a warmer spring month, but Stimpson says they were lucky with the snow a few weeks prior…

In other recent films shot in Door County, there isn’t much mention of Door County itself, but Stimpson says Door County itself is very much a part of this film and its story…

The film company worked closely with Destination Door County to arrange the filming on the Door Peninsula. Destination Door County Chief Communications Officer Jon Jarosh says the film company spent an estimated $700,000 in Wisconsin over the last month, and about $600,000 of that was spent in Door County during what is typically the slowest business month of the year for this area.
The film makers have a goal of having “A Cherry Pie Christmas” released sometime later this year, just in time for Christmas 2025.
