There was a fatal crash Tuesday afternoon in northern Door County, at the intersection of county roads “A” & “EE”. Just before 2:45 pm, the Door County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the crash. The initial investigation indicated that 81 year-old Florence McMillian of Chicago was westbound on County “EE” in her Ford Escape, stopped at County “A”, and then failed to yield right-of-way while entering the intersection. At that time a 51 year-old Sister Bay man was northbound on County “A” in a Mack dump truck and struck McMillian’s vehicle which was crossing his path. Both County Roads “A” and “EE” were closed off in this area for several hours while the incident was investigated. On the scene were Door County Emergency Services, the Gibraltar Fire Department, Gibraltar First Responders, the Door County Highway Department, the Baileys Harbor Constable, and the Door County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s department conducted the investigation with assistance from motor carrier inspectors and a crash reconstruction team from the Wisconsin State Patrol. County Roads “A” and “EE” were both re-opened just before 9:00 pm. This incident remains under investigation, and at this time no further information has been released.
