Ephraim/Gibraltar Airport Project

A project of just over $475,000 has been approved for the Ephraim/Gibraltar airport in Northern Door County. the planned work includes pavement seal coating & crack filling, as well as an update to the airport’s layout plan, &  the acquisition of land for future development & runway approach protection. Action on the state level releases $11,876 to help complete the project. The Village of Ephraim & the Town of Gibraltar are contributing a similar amount, but the lion’s share, $451,262, is being provided by the Federal Aviation Administration. The State Department of Transportation says the project will extend the life of airport pavement & purchase land adjacent to the airport. An updated airport layout plan is necessary for the airport to qualify for & receive federal improvement funds. Work on the project is underway & should be completed by May of next year. Facilities at the Ephraim/Gibraltar airport include a 2700 foot paved runway & a 1980 foot turf airstrip. Eight aircraft are based at the airport & approximately 9300 aircraft takeoffs & landings are logged in each year.
