A Southern Door County woman, accused of embezzling tens of thousands of dollars from a Brussels business is expected back in Door County circuit court at a preliminary hearing on August 25th to face nearly three dozen charges related to forgery & theft from a business setting. In an initial appearance earlier this week, 29 year old Jamie Englebert waived the time period for a preliminary hearing. Judge Peter Diltz set bail at $7500 signature bond & told Englebert to avoid contact with persons mentioned in the court complaint. Her arrest was the outgrowth of an investigation conducted by the Door County Sheriff’s Department at the request of the operators of Marchant’s Foods in Brussels. The investigation revealed that Englebert had, without permission, written numerous checks to herself during a period running from June of 2009, to May of this year. The amounts, which ranged from $100 to $5000, total more than $68,000. The money was reportedly spent on drugs & gambling.
