EAB Found in Sturgeon Bay

Travelers to Door County are usually greeted in a warm & friendly way, but one new visitor is not welcome. The City of Sturgeon Bay has joined the growing list of Wisconsin communities where the emerald ash borer is calling home. The city was notified by the Department of Natural Resources that the invasive insect has been found within its corporate limits. DNR staff members noticed fresh wood pecker damage in ash trees located at the intersection of Highway 42/57 & Utah Street. A closer inspection determined that an ash tree was infected by the emerald ash borer. Information on this find & another in the Fish Creek area will be presented at a public meeting Tuesday at 1PM at Crossroads at Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay. Partners from the Department of Agriculture, Trade & Consumer Protection, the DNR, the UW Extension, USDA Forest Service Animal & Plant Health Inspection Service, Door County Conservationist, & the Door County Agriculture Educator will be on hand to answer questions the public may have.
