Downed Power Line Causes Brush Fire Monday

Monday’s windy conditions brought down a power line and started a brush fire in the Village of Egg Harbor. At about 5:45PM, the power line went down near the south end of the Alpine Resort, next to Bluff Pass. The dry dead grass began to burn and the wind helped it spread. Egg Harbor Fire Chief Justin MacDonald reports his department sent four trucks with one UTV, and twelve firefighters to the scene. MacDonald says they were fortunate that Wisconsin Public Service arrived just before them…

They used 70 gallons of water and a half-gallon of foam to extinguish the fire, and they were able to clear the scene by 6:30PM. Fire Chief MacDonald says if there is a fire because of a down power line, it’s important to stand back, notify the authorities and let them take care of the situation…

Fire Chief MacDonald also added that they are very cautious with issuing burn permits right now. Even if we do get some precipitation, the strong winds can quickly dry the landscape and easily help any fire spread.
