Door-Tran Receives Grant

Door-Tran, a creative community network dedicated to connecting people to Door County transportation services, has been awarded a $1,500 sustainability grant from the Door County Community Foundation to support its half-price travel voucher program. The voucher program, started by Door-Tran in November of 2008, was created to provide more affordable transportation by cutting the rider cost in half when using a private taxi or the Washington Island Ferry Line. To date, the half-price voucher program has served more than 300 Door County residents and has subsidized over 14,250 rides to and from local businesses, health care facilities, work, and social events. Without the program, many residents would be unable to afford to travel within and outside of Door County. The Door County Community Foundation was instrumental in the start-up of Door-Tran through a community impact grant to the United Way of Door County in 2007.
