The Door County YMCA has announced the purchase of the former Sneakers & Boots building located in the Sturgeon Bay industrial park. The facility is expected to be used for a variety of purposes. According to the YMCA, the activities planned at the location will revolve around the education & care of young children & recreational activities for working adults. In a news release issued Friday, the organization noted that a primary consideration in making the purchase was to provide a permanent home for the 11-week long summer camp program. The activity, which has been around for more than 20 years, saw substantial growth in 2013 with an average daily attendance of 102 children. Additional uses of the building include expanding the highly successful summer foods program &, in the fall, providing expanded daycare & after school care services when the need arises. The YMCA also expects to partner with local employers by offering fitness classes at the facility as part of its workplace wellness program.
