The Door County YMCA has announced the selection of Tom Beerntsen as its new president & chief executive officer. Beerntsen, who is 64 & a native of Manitowoc, is the fourth individual to serve as the āY’sā CEO & will start his new position on January 6th. Previously, he served as the first executive director of the Wood Family Foundation in Chicago, a foundation created by retired Chicago Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood. Beerntsen’s resume includes work as executive vice-president for association development with the YMCA in Chicago & president & CEO of the Heritage YMCA group, joining the āYā in July of 2004. In January of 2011, the group which served 30,000 youth, families & adults in several Illinois communities was integrated with the YMCA of Chicago. Beerntsen owned & operated the family confectionery business in Manitowoc from 1983 to 2003. Prior to his work in Manitowoc, he served as a professional YMCA director in Iowa, South Dakota & Minnesota.
