They call it a “cost to continue budget.” No frills, no big ticket items, just enough to cover all of the costs of doing business. The Door County Board approved such a budget during its regular meeting this week in Sturgeon Bay. The nearly $68 million budget document for 2016 features a tax levy of $26,820,635, the cost that county taxpayers will cover. The mil rate will be $3.92 per thousand dollars of equalized valuation or ten cents per thousand more than it was last year. In a departure from previous budget building efforts, no dollars from the county’s reserves were used to balance the budget this time around.
