A developer who approached the Sister Bay Plan Commission to build a “Dollar General” store in the village last year has his eyes on a new site within the Town of Egg Harbor. This proposed new site is at the intersection of highway 42 and Hillside Road, just south of the Egg Harbor Fun Park. The Town of Egg Harbor has its own ordinance governing building permits and architectural controls, not subject to Door County zoning. The town has an Architectural Control Commission which examines all applications for commercial development. They try to ensure compliance with standards pertaining to the area’s general character, landscape design, building design, and architectural appeal. Under the town’s ordinance, no such building permits can be issued until the town board holds a public hearing for the application. The town board recently set the date for that public hearing. It will be Thursday November 5th at 6:00 pm in the Egg Harbor Town Hall. The Architectural Control Commission will then review the application after that hearing.
