DCMM One Step Closer to Accreditation

The Door County Maritime Museum has announced that they have passed the American Alliance of Museums’ Core Documents Verification Program. This milestone in meeting museum industry standards means an internationally recognized professional organization for the museum industry has verified the museum’s educational mission, strategic plan, code of ethics, and emergency and collections stewardship policies. These are the 5 core documents seen as being fundamental for basic professional museum operations as they embody core museum values and practices. Executive Director Kevin Osgood says this is the next affirmative step down the pathway to accreditation with the American Alliance of Museums, a long held goal for the Door County Maritime Museum. Only 3% of the 35,000 museums in the US are accredited with the American Alliance of Museums.
