DCMM Expects Tug John Purves to be Ready for Season

The tug John Purves, a floating exhibit of the Door County Maritime Museum, has been in dry dock at Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding since December 11th for repairs and general maintenance. Some of those repairs include a port side leak which was identified and sealed up, a bilge cleaning, and the hull needed to be scraped and pressure washed. Deputy Director Sam Perlman has more…

Some of the work currently happening on the tug include the hull pitting being filled and the engineers evaluating the aft tank frames. All this work is costly, but the Maritime Museum is very grateful for all the different types of financial support they’ve received in this project…

Perlman says he and other museum representatives will be conducting another site visit to the tug this next week. They are then anxious for it to return to its home on the west waterfront next to the museum in mid-April. The museum staff will then do cleaning and preparations to make sure the tug is ready for tours by its opening date of May 1st.
