For Door County households that have not yet responded to the 2020 census, starting July 30th Door County census takers will begin following up by visiting households to gather data. The current self-response rate for the census in Door County is 46.1%. The remaining households will receive a visit by the Census Bureau to collect responses in-person. If you have yet to respond, you can still do so and spare an unnecessary visit from a census taker. You can still respond by completing and mailing back your paper questionnaire, by responding online at “2020census.gov”, or by phone at (844) 330-2020. If a census taker approaches your home, they will be easily identified by a valid government ID badge with their photograph, a US Department of Commerce watermark, and an expiration date on the badge. The Census Bureau is providing face masks to the census takers and they are required to wear them while conducting their work. They will follow CDC and local Public Health guidelines during their visit. Everyone is encouraged to cooperate with census takers and to make sure that everyone living in your household as of April 1st, 2020, is counted. If no one is home when the census taker visits, they will leave a notice telling you how to respond online, by phone, or by mail.
