Apparently, it wasn’t a match made in heaven. Plans to merge the county sanitarian’s office with the soil & water conservation department have gone down the tubes so to speak. Word out of the Door County government center in Sturgeon Bay is that the crew at the sanitarian’s office will remain under the direction of John Tiechtler. When the idea of the merger was floated, the county experienced some push back from representatives of septic service businesses who felt a decision had been made without their input. While the on again off again merger has been replaced by the status quo, indications are that the idea will be revisited at some future date. The recent push toward consolidation is part of an effort to save money by essentially doing more with less. The merger idea began with the county board itself & the consolidation of several of its standing committees.
