County Board Releases Statement on Serpe Case

Door County board chairman Leo Zipperer updated the full county board Tuesday on a committee decision to place county administrator Michael Serpe on administrative leave while an investigation into his conduct as administrator is being completed. The statement read by Zipperer noted that the eight person administrative services committee had met in special session Friday & went behind closed doors to consider allegations of specific personnel problems involving Serpe & an investigation into possible charges against him. After meeting for two hours, the committee voted unanimously to engage the legal firm of Godfrey & Kahn, SC to handle the investigation & placed Serpe on paid administrative leave. Zipperer also pointed out that, while there has been speculation in some segments of the local media, no other communication or information by the committee, corporation counsel or himself has been released. He said the information provided at Tuesday’s county board session will be the only statement issued until the investigation has been completed & that could take two weeks at a minimum, perhaps longer. It is anticipated that Serpe’s duties will be handled in house for the time being.
