Council May Appoint Replacement for Stutting

The decision by Sturgeon Bay Superintendent Joe Stutting to take a position at a school district in Iowa will impact the Sturgeon Bay City Council. Stutting is currently chairman of two important council committees, finance/purchasing & building & personnel. He ran unopposed for the district five aldermanic seat in 2013, meaning his current term will be up for election in April of 2015. With Stutting expected to start his new job in July, it’s anticipated that the city council will appoint a replacement to represent district five until the next election. In the past, the mayor & council have used several methods to fill an empty council seat. Most recently, candidates were asked to provide resumes listing their qualifications & reasons for wanting to serve. The individual selected was then approved during an open session of the council. As for Stutting’s committee chairmanships, Mayor Thad Birmingham will provide the council with a new list of committee assignments after the April election.
