Community Center Project Takes Step Forward in Egg Harbor

Progress is being made in the effort to build a new community center/library in Egg Harbor. Last week, the village board of trustees agreed to contract with Hammel, Green & Abrahamson, an architectural firm based in Minnesota, to do the design work & construction oversight for the proposed facility on the property that at one time housed a local hangout, Lena’s Sip & Chat. The old building was razed in anticipation that it would be replaced by the new multi-faceted facility. Village Administrator Josh Vanlieshout says the next step in the process is to begin soliciting public input on a community center that will serve folks both inside & outside the village…[audio:http://wdor.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/N1234.mp3|titles=Josh Vanlieshout]

It’s anticipated that the new facility, offering space for the library, a welcome center, community activities & a display on the Niagara Escarpment, could cost as much as $1.5 million. A fundraising campaign is expected to be launched after HGA provides design materials.
